  • Dancers are required to dance through the summer

Financial Commitments

Competition dance does carry additional financial commitments

  • Each routine has an entry fee per competition
  • Costumes are more expensive
  • Additional items are required, warm up suit, make up etc.

Benefits of Competitive Dance

  • Sportsmanship. Learning to congratulate someone who may have just narrowly  beaten you in your category builds character and will serve you throughout your life.
  • Accepting criticisms. There are not a lot of opportunities in life to be critiqued by a professional objective third party, and sometimes a judge will tell you exactly what you need to hear about your dancing to help you improve.
  • Organization. While this responsibility falls on the parents with young dancers it is a great teaching moment for the practical skills of being organized and responsible. Dancers will need costumes, hair pieces, make-up, warm ups and shoes for each routine and all that needs to travel with them to different venues.
  • Resilience. Learning to bounce back is a very important life lesson. You won’t always win or receive the highest score. Sometimes it’s just not your day. You need to learn to lose with grace, to  handle disappointment. The show must go on.  This attitude will be beneficial to them throughout their  lives.
  • Self Esteem & Self Confidence. Gaining the courage to perform on stage under the bright lights, in front of judges, friends, family and teachers will provide opportunities for them to be celebrated, congratulated, and encouraged for something they have worked hard to achieve.
